Coaching and Counselling in the Construction Industry: Understanding the Key Differences and Benefits
Imagine two people leaving the same construction site at the end of the day. One has recently been promoted and is struggling to lead people
Working in construction can bring pressure both inside and outside of work. Sometimes you may know that something needs to change but feel unsure where to start.
Onward Shift coaching gives you one-to-one space to focus on where you are now, what you want to work on and the changes that matter to you.
Our coaching is focused around two areas: Life Coaching and Neurodiversity Coaching. Whether you want to build confidence, navigate a period of change, understand yourself better or find practical strategies that work with the way you think and live, you can choose a coach whose experience fits what you’re looking for.
Coaching is different from counselling. It generally focuses more on the present, your goals and practical ways of moving forward. If you’re unsure which type of support may suit you, we can help point you in the right direction.
Life coaching can help you explore where you are now, what you would like to change and the steps that may help you move forward. Our life coaches can support areas such as confidence, direction, habits, boundaries, motivation and navigating periods of change.
Neurodiversity coaching offers practical, individual support around how neurodivergence can affect everyday life and work. Our coaches can help you better understand your strengths, challenges, routines, communication, organisation and the strategies that work for you.

Yes. Your sessions are treated as confidential and our coaches and counsellors are expected to follow appropriate professional confidentiality standards.
There may be limited circumstances where information needs to be shared, such as where there is a serious concern about safety or where disclosure is required by law. Your provider can explain their confidentiality arrangements at the start of your work together.
That’s completely okay. The relationship you have with your coach or counsellor matters, and sometimes the first person you speak to won’t feel like the right fit.
If that happens, let us know and we’ll help you explore another provider.
We keep pricing simple and transparent.
Every session will be different depending on whether you choose coaching or counselling and the provider you work with.
You can expect a confidential, non-judgemental space where you have time to talk openly about what is going on for you. A coach may focus more on goals, change and practical next steps, while counselling may give you space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in greater depth.
Your provider will work at a pace that feels appropriate for you.
Sessions usually last 50–60 minutes and can be:
Coaching is generally more focused on where you are now, where you would like to get to and the changes you want to make. Counselling provides space to explore emotions, experiences and difficulties in greater depth.
There is no fixed script. Your sessions should develop around what you need and what you feel comfortable discussing.
