Founded by Tom Gold, Mens Outdoor Group was created to give men something that can sometimes be difficult to find in everyday life: genuine connection, honest conversation and space to switch off without judgement.
Tom has worked with men from a wide range of backgrounds, including military veterans, people within the criminal justice system, asylum seekers and senior leaders carrying significant pressure and responsibility. Through those experiences, he saw how valuable it can be for men to have spaces where they can spend time together without feeling they have to perform or have everything figured out.
That’s why the outdoors sits at the heart of Mens Outdoor Group. Through walking, training, bushcraft, adventure and time away from everyday pressures, the retreats create opportunities for men to connect, challenge themselves, talk openly and spend time with others.
It isn’t about forcing conversations or pretending the outdoors can solve everything. Sometimes it’s simply about getting away from the noise, spending time with other people and creating the space for conversations to happen naturally.
Onward Shift is proud to partner with Mens Outdoor Group because there is a genuine overlap in what we both care about: connection, honest conversation and giving people space away from the pressures of everyday life.
For many people working in construction, long hours, responsibility, time away from home and the tendency to simply get on with things can make it difficult to slow down and talk about what is going on.
Mens Outdoor Group offers something different from the professional support available through Onward Shift. Their retreats create opportunities for men to spend time outdoors, connect with others and step away from their normal routine.
Tom’s approach is grounded in lived experience and a belief in the importance of human connection, which is why the partnership feels like a natural fit for Onward Shift.

In episode 48 of the Onward Shift Podcast, I sit down with Tom Gold for a powerful conversation about men’s mental health, modern masculinity and the healing power of nature, community and connection.
Tom shares his experiences supporting men through outdoor experiences, bushcraft and community-led initiatives designed to help people reconnect not only with nature but with themselves and those around them. Together, we explore why so many men struggle to express emotions openly and how societal expectations, identity and a lack of positive role models can contribute to emotional isolation.
This episode also dives into emotional coherence, vulnerability and the importance of creating psychologically safe spaces where men feel comfortable talking honestly about what they are going through. Tom explains why nature can be such a powerful tool for reflection, connection and wellbeing, especially in a world dominated by technology, distraction and constant stimulation.
A grounded and thought-provoking conversation about belonging, emotional wellbeing and the importance of building communities where men feel seen, heard and supported.
Tom has now officially become Onward Shift’s first partner and is kindly offering 10% off his retreats to the Onward Shift community.
